Yes to brush clearing, no to land clearing

The newly formed association, created by residents of the Chante Cigale neighborhood in September 2025, is primarily dedicated to preserving the environment in eastern Gujan-Mestras by preventing the deforestation planned in the municipality’s future urban development plan.

It all started with a walk in the woods.

Who are we, where are we going?

We are people living at the southern gateway to the magnificent Arcachon Bay, on the eastern outskirts of Gujan-Mestras, the oyster capital, with a population of 22,000, just 20 minutes from the Dune du Pilat.

We are privileged people because millions of people would love to be in our place, sheltered from the noise and fury, far from concrete and fine particulate matter.

After a crash course, we gathered to say no to this plan.

Yes to brush clearing, no to land clearing.

In doing so, we discovered we weren’t alone.

So we created this neighborhood association in partnership with all lovers of the Arcachon Basin who are working to preserve the environment.

And now, where are we headed?

We’re moving toward less concrete and more preservation of green spaces.

We will demand—and secure—the designation of our small, preserved forests as natural areas protected from deforestation.

And at the same time, we’re building community ties.
