Description

 THE LA BERGERETTE ARBORETUM

The Arboretum de la Bergerette, established in the 1990s, is home to more than 300 species of trees from around the world

The association’s mission is:

  • Maintain and expand the national collection of approximately 200 species of oak as well as other plants in the arboretum
  • Strengthen relationships with current partners: IOS (International Oak Society), C.C.V.S. (Conservatory of Specialized Plant Collections)
  • Develop relationships with global, national, regional, and departmental stakeholders.

The arboretum is known as the “CCVS National Quercus Collection.”

Association members help maintain the Arboretum, thereby contributing to the conservation of oak species.  For example, in Mexico, where there are more than 170 species of oak (more than in any other country), in some regions approximately 90% of the forests have disappeared in just 20 years.  The many Mexican species planted at La Bergerette and in other collections around the world help ensure the survival of species otherwise threatened with extinction.

The arboretum participates in public events such as the Fête de la Nature and RDV aux Jardins, as well as meetings of national and international specialists (INRAE, ONF, International Oak Society, International Dendrology Society, etc.)
