Description

Les Petits Carrés de Caen (LPCC), an organization founded in 2011, aims to raise awareness among young people and adults in urban areas about biodiversity and the challenges of environmental sustainability.

Who are “Les Petits Carrés de Caen”?

  • As friends, enthusiasts, and advocates for biodiversity conservation, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the delicate balances that define the quality of our environment.
  • “Les Petits Carrés de Caen”: An heirloom variety of beans that is in danger of being forgotten. Starting with this bean, our desire to come together and share stories about the fruits and vegetables from the garden led us to recognize the indispensable role of pollinators in producing them.
What better symbol than the bee and its social organization to educate and engage people around this simple truth!
  • We do not raise our bees for what they produce, but rather for the deeper understanding they offer us of how nature works.

The association has developed an urban beekeeping program that includes outreach activities to raise awareness among city residents and educational initiatives on the environment and sustainable development in schools

Management
Beekeeping management involves caring for the colonies to ensure the survival and reproduction of the bees.

For several years, the association has offered educational activities to schools in the city of Caen and its surrounding area to raise students’ awareness of biodiversity through the fascinating medium of the bee.

The association also organizes beekeeping cafés in the form of mini-lectures led by one of its members or by an expert invited by the association. The topics are varied, always related to biodiversity: bees, honey, nectar-producing plants,
