The Shifters is a nonprofit organization established in 2014 to provide volunteer support to The Shift Project, a think tank dedicated to decarbonizing the economy.
We are a group of citizens equipped with:
These three founding pillars (vision, mission, values) guide our organizational life and ensure our coherence. They are our shared DNA, regardless of our differences on other issues. We are all dedicated first and foremost to decarbonization because we believe that all other issues are secondary to it.
The Shifters are nearly 30,000 members of all ages, educational backgrounds, and socioeconomic statuses who work together toward decarbonization. There are nearly 1,000 active members involved in the association’s various projects, whether these are time-limited assignments or multi-year initiatives, internal or external, in the production of technical work, the organization of events, or the day-to-day operations of the association. There are nearly 300 ongoing projects, led by independent project leaders. Finally, there are 400 volunteers overseeing these activities and managing our collective.
The Shifters are students, retirees, professionals, and amateurs; women and men; fathers and mothers—all of whom have decided to work together to advance society’s recognition of the necessary shift away from fossil fuels.
The Shifters are local groups that allow us to meet, close to home, other members who share our ambitions, as well as thematic circles to collectively explore complex topics.
Shifters are volunteer speakers, trainers, writers, videographers, podcasters, aeronautical or agricultural engineers, experts in energy or accounting, and farmers.
Shifters are, above all, citizens who wish, through their actions, their networks, and their knowledge, to actively contribute to ensuring that the decarbonization of the economy is, in the future, at the center of all societal discourse.
