The main objectives to date are the study and conservation of Mediterranean sharks and rays.

AILERONS is a non-profit scientific association established under the French Law of 1901, founded in May 2006 in Montpellier (Hérault, France).  It is through the collective efforts of volunteer scientists, students, and volunteers from all walks of life, and with the help of all sea users (fishermen, managers, associations, etc.), that AILERONS carries out its projects.    Its main objectives to date are the study and conservation of Mediterranean sharks and rays.

The AILERONS association works to improve knowledge and protect Mediterranean sharks and rays.  The current lack of understanding and the negative image of these species are a major obstacle to the implementation of concrete management measures or plans. Yet Mediterranean shark and ray populations have never been so threatened!

Composed of a multidisciplinary team of enthusiasts, students, and scientists, AILERONS voluntarily leads various scientific, educational, and citizen science projects.

Conferences, booths, school visits, outreach, and sea excursions—the AILERONS association offers a variety of activities throughout the year where everyone can participate in whatever way suits them best.

The Ailerons association is open to everyone.  Students, teachers, marine biologists, divers, fishermen, sailors… Ailerons members are above all passionate about the oceans and their inhabitants, seeking to take concrete action at their own level.
