The Hanging Gardens of Perrache: a high-rise community garden right in the heart of downtown!

 Les Jardins suspendus de Perrache is a Lyon-based nonprofit founded in 2011 with the goal of revitalizing the green spaces on the rooftop terraces of the Lyon Perrache Transit Center (CELP).



The desire to create a garden was sparked by the beauty of the gardens in the Gerland neighborhood. So, as soon as we heard about the idea of a shared garden with the possibility of individual plots on the rooftops of the Perrache Transit Center, we jumped at the chance. There were very few of us when we first broke ground. But the launch team was very friendly, which gave us just the right amount of courage to dive in despite having no experience!

And the lead gardener skillfully shared his advice. Weeks went by, and we started by tending to the community garden. Then, individual plots were offered, complementing the community garden, which was growing and bursting with beautiful colors...

What a joy to garden right in the heart of Lyon and up high! A breath of fresh air... and the birdsong that makes us forget the city’s noise...
