Strengthening scientific expertise in the Caribbean islands to better protect biodiversity
The insular Caribbean is one of the world’s most important biodiversity hotspots, but also one of the regions most vulnerable to the consequences of global change.
Caribaea Initiative is the only international conservation organization whose work spans the entire island Caribbean, transcending all linguistic, cultural, and political barriers.
Our primary mission is to help the countries of the insular Caribbean manage and protect their shared natural heritage as effectively as possible, particularly by strengthening local scientific expertise.
Since 2014, Caribaea Initiative has been developing research and education projects focused on the study and protection of Caribbean biodiversity. These projects provide training for a growing number of Caribbean students at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. They have already led to major breakthroughs, such as the discovery of new species or the protection of sites harboring exceptional biodiversity.
