Faced with demographic and land-use pressures in developing countries, land productivity is currently declining sharply in many tropical regions. Furthermore, the rapid succession of cyclonic storms is leading to extreme impoverishment among certain populations due to land degradation and flooding of the plains where major urban areas are located. The contributions published here focus on case studies in Haiti, as well as in Madagascar, the Maghreb, and Vietnam, comprising a total of some sixty papers and a series of recent documents based on expert analysis.
