Description

The Association

We uphold our values through our various initiatives. This is an opportunity for us to share them with you and help you discover what brings us together as well as our history.

Founded in 1992,  the non-profit organization Roue Libre aims to promote active mobility in general and cycling in particular within the Savoie department and across all municipalities in this region, and as needed,  in the municipalities bordering the department.

It supports or initiates actions, initiatives, or pilot projects aimed at defending the needs, interests, and rights of cyclists, while ensuring a balanced sharing of traffic spaces, across all the territories defined above.

It advocates for consistent compliance with legal and regulatory provisions (laws, decrees, ordinances, local urban planning schemes, etc.)  relating to the reduction of motor vehicle traffic and the use of bicycles (development of bicycle routes, bicycle parking in public or private buildings, the transport of bicycles on public transit, etc.),  and encourages local authorities and regional stakeholders to take action and step up their efforts to promote active mobility.

It provides information, raises awareness, organizes activities and events, and supports all members of the public in cycling as part of a community education initiative.  It promotes bicycle self-repair workshops, cycling routes, and cycling practices, for both practical and recreational purposes, and works through a network.

The association has continuously expanded its scope of action and expertise since its founding. Today, we operate throughout the Savoie region and have four offices located across four urban areas in the Savoie department:

  • Chambéry, our headquarters
  • The Albertville branch, established in 1999
  • The Montmélian branch, established in 2017
  • The Avant Pays Savoyard branch, established in 2024
