Description

The Perennis Association is a nonprofit organization established in 2005 and based in Cognac.

Since its founding, Perennis has been working to preserve and manage the local natural heritage in Charente (16) and Charente-Maritime (17).

Thus, its main missions consist of:

  • Environmental expertise: thanks to its methodological and field expertise, the association conducts inventories of fauna, flora, and habitats;
  • Management of natural sites: Perennis works in various sectors to preserve local biodiversity and populations of endangered species (European pond turtle, European otter, European mink, etc.);
  • Environmental awareness: the association organizes activities to raise awareness among various audiences (schoolchildren, elected officials, businesses, the general public, etc.) about environmental conservation.

Areas of Action

  • Management of natural habitats: Based on conservation biology, we work in abandoned habitats that possess significant ecological value but are at risk. The goal is to preserve local biodiversity and populations of endangered species. To this end, the association focuses on two main areas:
    The Abbey of Châtres near Saint-Brice (16100) for the conservation of the European pond turtle
    , three species of butterflies, as well as the European otter and European mink (a mammal found
    along riverbanks), The Vallon du Bel Air, located in Crazannes – Port d’Envaux, featuring educational workshops and monitoring of the European otter, European mink, and changes in the environment.

Our area of operation extends around the Saintes/Angoulême corridor.
