Revitalizing the village café
The “1,000 Cafés” program aims to open, maintain, and expand multi-service cafés in villages with fewer than 3,500 residents.
The various local services offered by the cafés—bread delivery, newspapers, a small grocery store, package pickup, etc.—are selected in consultation with residents, elected officials, and project leaders to meet the needs of the community.
As a hub for activities of general interest that foster social connections and a sense of community, “1000 Cafés” places social innovation and co-creation at the heart of the cafés.
Today, the network brings together 300 municipalities where the program has been implemented, across nearly 70 departments.
Committed to revitalizing vulnerable communities
Through the “1000 Cafés” program, the SOS Group’s ambition is to develop solutions to enhance and improve local life in rural areas. To this end, it develops approaches tailored to the needs of each community. The goal: to revitalize vulnerable communities, provide concrete solutions and projects to boost citizen participation, and develop tailored responses to societal challenges. These solutions are primarily aimed at the residents of these areas and involve them from the very beginning of their development.
