Plante & Cité: Technical Center for Urban Nature

Plante & Cité is a national organization dedicated to research and experimentation on green spaces, landscapes, and nature in urban areas. This technical center facilitates the transfer of scientific knowledge to professionals in the private sector and local governments.

Our Missions

Conduct studies and research projects to address on-the-ground needs and provide technical expertise

Generate knowledge and disseminate scientific and technical resources to help local governments and professionals adapt their planning, design, and management practices to address major challenges related to nature in the city

Share and pool innovative initiatives within a network of urban nature stakeholders (local governments, landscaping companies, research and training centers) 

SOME OF OUR INITIATIVES

• URBAN VSOL: Integrating locally native wild plants into urban environments
• Assessing the relevance and effectiveness of implementing export mowing to reduce nutrient levels in soils
• Expanding knowledge of urban soil biodiversity and assessing associated ecosystem functions and services
• Understanding the dynamics of soil organisms (fauna, microorganisms) in relation to soil and environmental conditions (discontinuities in the green and brown infrastructure, climatic conditions, land uses, etc.)
• Measure the associated functional and/or taxonomic richness or diversity
• Urban Community Gardens and Sustainable Cities: Practices, Functions, and Risks
