Since 2001, ECHO-MER, an environmental organization, has been working to limit the impact of human-caused pollution on nature.
Through educational activities, advocacy for the phase-out of pesticides, and material recycling, ECHO-MER works to protect the marine environment and build a more sustainable future.
OUR INITIATIVES
Clean Up Your Trash: Harbor
Cleanup Since spring 2020, the ECHO-MER association and the La Rochelle marina have joined forces to combat pollution in the downtown harbor basins through the "CLEAN UP YOUR TRASH" initiative.
How does it work? Three times a week, a team of volunteers lends a hand to the Port’s Blue Brigade by patrolling the docks, equipped with nets, to retrieve as much floating trash as possible.
Sea
fennel harvest Twice a year, volunteers harvest sea fennel growing along the docks.
It is then used in the creation of organic cosmetics by a partner company, Solibio.
Educational Activities in Schools
From preschool through high school, Echo-Mer conducts programs on topics related to marine conservation and respect for the marine environment, using various video materials tailored to different audiences. Waste collection operations take place on the beaches of La Rochelle and the surrounding area
Pontoon
operations Protecting underwater flora and fauna also involves raising environmental awareness among everyone who uses the sea, including recreational boaters. Volunteers meet with recreational boaters docked at the marina to raise their awareness about ocean protection. We provide them with a container for collecting used batteries and invite them to sign the Echo-Marin Charter and its 13 commandments.
Giving sails
a second life One of Echo-Marin’s missions is to give boat sails and advertising banners a second life by transforming them into various products for individuals and businesses, including bags, poufs, and cushions made from recycled sailcloth.
