Initiatives to monitor and preserve natural areas and combat pollution

The Green Brigade’s missions focus primarily on prevention, in coordination with key state agencies (police, gendarmerie, fire department, etc.) and other local institutions (Departmental Council, town halls, communities of municipalities, etc.).
Under the authority of the mayors, the Green Brigade’s rural police officers primarily carry out the following duties:

• Monitoring forests and public roads.
• Monitoring hunting and fishing activities.
• Combating pollution, fires, noise, and various nuisances.
• Preventing construction without permits and violations of the Local Urban Planning Plan (PLU).

Enforcement and policing

The Green Brigade serves as a point of contact for the “Beavers,” “Wolves,” and “Lynx” networks.

The Green Brigade also serves as a sentinel in the Haut-Rhin Department, in coordination with the Regional Health Agency, to detect the presence of ragweed.

Missions focused on information, education, and raising awareness about respecting natural
areas Information, awareness-raising, and education are among the Green Brigade’s core missions. Through outreach in schools or simply through daily interactions with visitors to natural areas, the Rural Rangers have the opportunity to remind people of the regulations in effect.
