Terres en Vie aims to help organic and local-market farmers establish themselves in the Nantes Wine Region by restoring neglected farmland
Who are we?
Terres en Vie brings together about 100 volunteers across the Nantes Wine Region, all of whom share the common goal of:
- - Identify, consolidate, and restore abandoned agricultural plots to give them a new future and make them attractive, so they can be passed on to project leaders committed to producing organic products for the local food system.
- - Preserve biodiversity and promote its development, to enhance the resilience of leased plots and protect our environmental heritage
- - Implement community-based initiatives to raise awareness, provide information, and foster discussion about sustainable agriculture, locally sourced food, and the environment.
Our Services
To achieve its objectives across the Nantes Wine Region, Terres en Vie has developed the following services:
- Community engagement and creation of local groups – at the municipal level
- Inventories of fallow land and land use – at the municipal level
- Leasing fallow land from landowners and managing land holdings
- Land restructuring and creation of a reserve of available land
- Restoration of biodiversity and agroecological rehabilitation of plots
- Coordination and support for project leaders
- In line with the principles of the circular economy, a working group is also exploring a composting initiative to recycle food waste generated by local residents and transform it into compost to be spread as an organic soil amendment on the leased land.
