Description

During our trip around Brittany, while visiting the Trégor Eco-Center,    we discovered a very ingenious folding greenhouse system developed by Hervé Garel.    The goal is to cultivate small vegetable plots to avoid large plowed areas and to allow for good crop rotation and direct seeding in the field.

During the summer, workshops on building this folding greenhouse system are offered at the Trégor Eco-Center (in northern Brittany).    This system is adaptable to greenhouses of all sizes.    Once assembled, the greenhouse unfolds and folds up easily; it takes up little space when folded for storage.        We used the time during lockdown to test the construction of a model that we sized to protect our seedlings in early spring.    It’s easy to make, and the result is very satisfying.

Additional information

Difficulty level: Easy Tools and supplies needed: HOW IT WORKS: Details of the components of the folding greenhouse In this guide, we will walk you through the different steps involved in building a folding greenhouse. The greenhouse folds and unfolds using a bellows system. The length, width, and height of the greenhouse can easily be adjusted to suit your needs. The mechanism that allows the greenhouse to function is a system of offset double-hinged panels that you will need to build. In this guide, we will provide standardized instructions using standard-sized battens that can be found in stores. Whenever possible, it is of course preferable to reuse materials rather than use new ones. The one shown in the photo, for example, was built using roof battens.
