Description

Eisenia is a Lyon-based nonprofit organization founded in 2013, initially to promote vermicomposting—a method of recycling organic waste that was not widely practiced at the time—but also to champion environmental values based on the idea that all waste, provided it is sorted at the source, is a resource to be recycled

OUR INITIATIVES

Linux and Populus: Sale of computers at affordable prices

We sell computers that we have refurbished ourselves and equipped with the latest version of Linux Mint (a user-friendly Linux operating system that closely resembles Windows). We offer several lines of computers with varying levels of performance.

Even the most affordable computers allow for smooth office work and internet browsing.

LE C.R.E.P.I. Collective for Repairing Bulky Items at the Base of Buildings

At Eisenia, we’ve made a habit of using and repurposing bulky “waste” found in the neighborhoods where we work during our events and when building worm composters or various outdoor structures. With this project, we’re killing three birds with one stone:

  • Environmental: putting “waste” back into circulation, thereby reducing the need to buy new furniture or items / meticulous sorting of waste that cannot be directly repurposed / raising residents’ awareness about waste reduction.
  • Economic: aiming to reduce the overall cost of managing illegal dumping (paid for by tenants through landlords)
  • Social: redistribution of furniture and items for free / fostering community connections (repair cafés, drop-in sessions, events, and a visible presence in the neighborhood).
