Description

Inspired by the famous legend of the hummingbird, the village aims to demonstrate the simplicity of small homes and highlight ecological and social innovations. Through this project, I hope to “do my part” and, in turn, inspire larger-scale eco-friendly and community-driven initiatives.

The Project

Village Colibri is a green, welcoming, and peaceful place, featuring eco-designed homes that provide dignified and rapid housing for a diverse population. Located across from the UBS in Lorient, Village Colibri welcomes students, remote workers, single-parent families, and seniors. The common areas encourage social diversity, mutual support, and openness to the outside world, while remaining close to all amenities.

The Village

It is situated on a plot of land across from the UBS branch in Lorient. It is the ideal place to meet people and socialize—whether while tending to plants in the shared garden, attending a conference, or gathering in the site’s common areas.

A human-scale and eco-friendly space surrounded by green areas and close to all amenities, featuring unique and comfortable accommodations built with bio- and geo-sourced materials, with no permanent footprint on the ground and thus respecting the environment.

The village consists of three hubs:

  • Hub 1: Housing: A village of eco-friendly and affordable housing to provide shelter for people in need.
  • Hub 2: Awareness: An information center to boost engagement in the transition.
  • Hub 3: Innovation: Experiments with eco-materials, low-tech solutions, bioclimatic designs, and home care solutions.

In total, Village Colibri has 25 units distributed as follows:

9 units for students

8 housing units for families or retirees

4 units for people with their own reversible housing solutions

The remaining 4 units will be reserved for businesses (shared workspaces for remote workers / temporary housing for new employees) as well as for sustainable tourism
