Mobility is a key factor in social integration and, as a result, has been the focus of numerous discussions and initiatives throughout the Loire-Atlantique department. Citizen-led initiatives have thus emerged in various locations to support people in need—whether they are elderly, without resources, isolated, or facing other hardships—in order to maintain or rebuild their social connections.
The goal is to connect, on the one hand, people who have a vehicle and are willing to give a little of their time for moments of social interaction, and, on the other hand, people in need (seniors, job seekers, isolated families, etc.) who are unable to get around to carry out everyday tasks (shopping, attending medical appointments, completing administrative procedures, participating in community life, etc.) using existing public or private transportation, or even with the help of family and friends.
Based on volunteerism and solidarity, the project does not provide any compensation for the volunteer driver; only a contribution per kilometer traveled is requested from those being transported, in addition to a very minimal annual membership fee granting access to the association.
Volunteer drivers are covered by special auto insurance taken out by the association for the duration of the trip.
