What is “Le Bahut”?
The Bahut is a third place currently under construction in the former Lycée de l’Alba, at Espace Lagabrielle in Bergerac. The 6,000-square-meter building is located in the eastern part of the city, just a short walk from the greenway that runs along the Dordogne River (upstream from the Pimont Bridge).
The project is part of the 2023–2026 “Action Cœur de Ville” plan: the city of Bergerac owns the building and serves as the plan’s project manager, while La Fab’coop is the lead partner. The national “Action Cœur de Ville” plan has two main goals: to improve the living conditions of residents in medium-sized cities and to strengthen these cities’ role as drivers of regional development
Le Bahut, a “third place” for transitions, has the following goals:
- Ecological transition: in the context of the urgent need to adapt to and combat climate change.
- Economic transition: in response to budget constraints affecting Social and Solidarity Economy organizations, as well as to promote regional development across the greater Bergerac area.
- Social transition: by creating a space open to everyone and fostering neighborhood life, sharing, social integration, training, access to local services, and solidarity...
- Cultural transition: through the presentation and promotion of various forms of visual, performing, and audio arts, both on an ongoing basis and through one-off eco-friendly events.
-
The creation of a “third place” coordination position in early 2025 will enable La Fab’coop and its members to accelerate the transformation of the space: greening part of the inner courtyard and opening a community-run café.
-
The space currently hosts 13 organizations from various fields: culture, art, the environment, the circular economy, solidarity, social and professional integration, cooperation, training, information, and awareness-raising...:
