Description

Fostering Solidarity Through Community Gardens

Because gardening is a powerful tool for therapy and social connection, Terre & Humanisme establishes collective, agroecological vegetable gardens for people in vulnerable situations (residents of shelters, asylum seekers, people in the process of reintegration, etc.) in partnership with various social organizations. Residents attend regular workshops there and work the soil, guided by a facilitator trained by Terre & Humanisme. They learn to manage the garden, organize themselves, and work as a team.

Terre & Humanisme facilitates the creation and management of:

  • A shared garden with residents of Villa Savine, a halfway house in Montpellier, in collaboration with the Habitat & Humanisme association. The garden benefits 20 residents and 2 staff members.
  • A shared garden with asylum seekers housed in two CADA (Reception Centers for Asylum Seekers) in Montpellier, in partnership with the La Boussole collective.
  • A garden in the center of Montpellier, which will benefit all vulnerable people in the city, in partnership with La Boussole and the Montpellier metropolitan area

By the numbers

18 community gardens planned across France

3 CADA and a halfway house, grouped together within the La Boussole collective

150 beneficiaries

3,000 VolonTerres volunteers welcomed since 2004

Our initiatives

- Become a “VolonTerre” in 2026

- For two weeks, immerse yourself in our educational gardens to learn agroecological techniques, guided by our gardener-instructors!

- The Noria Farm is exactly what Terre & Humanisme has been seeking for several years: more space to experiment with agroecology on a small-scale farm, and to develop training programs for new audiences, always in line with its mission to raise awareness among as many people as possible.

Outreach:

Meetings: Each month, we welcome a guest speaker to lead these sessions.

Radio Show: Since 2021, we have been a partner of the community radio station Fréquence 7. We host a monthly show on agroecology.

Seed Market: A plant market where passionate nursery owners and growers await you. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover local and resilient varieties for your vegetable garden.

Schools: Would you like to introduce your students or young children to (agro)ecological gardening? We can host school classes or groups of children in our gardens and offer workshops, activities, or simply a guided tour, depending on your needs.
