Description

Today, this joint initiative brings together a group of citizens who love their region—residents who are committed to and actively involved in environmental, social, and cultural causes.

The association focuses on issues that impact the present and future of the Dombes region, with the goal of fostering a sense of ownership and creating the common good. It serves as a platform for dialogue and exchange among associations, institutions, professionals, and the general public.

Initiative Commune’s Work

Initiative Commune used the land registry to reconstruct the exact route of the railway line, which is primarily on private property. This exceptional effort—even though nothing remains of the tracks today—has also made it possible to rediscover several engineering structures (bridges, remarkable embankments, and water crossings known as “ovoids”...)

The Current Project to Be Implemented

La Galoche could serve as a link between the ViaRhona and the cycling route currently under construction along the Saône. Signage along the route would encourage curious visitors to explore the remnants of what was once a labor-intensive construction project.

THE FOREST, AN ASSET FOR THE DOMBES

What is the role of the Joint Initiative? To bring together and raise awareness among all stakeholders involved with the forest (forest owners, operators, loggers, sawmillers, wood-related associations and federations…) to promote more responsible and sustainable forest management and use.

The various stakeholders and their challenges

  • The association offers assistance to forest owners by providing various recommendations to help them better maintain their property (soil protection, relationships with the timber industry, legal issues, etc.). Through training, Initiative Commune hopes to improve forest conservation. Additionally, a technician, hired to supplement this training, is on hand to provide guidance and advice on land management.
  • The Dombes Forest is known for its variety of tree species, such as the red oak, which is both useful and sturdy as a building material. It is a thriving economy. Several trades are represented here: carpenters, lumberjacks, joiners, floor installers… Beyond forest preservation, it is essential to preserve the woodworking expertise associated with the forest.
