Collective Production of Fruits and Vegetables

The association Les Parcelles Solidaires Civam Fertil runs a collective vegetable and fruit production project based on the principles of agroecology, on land provided by the city of Pau—the Parkway site,  (2 hectares, including 1,400 m² of greenhouses), near the highway exit and Caliceo.

The initiative allows a wide range of people to participate in vegetable gardening and share the harvest. The “Parcelles Solidaires” are also a place for meeting others, exchanging ideas, and building social connections, helping to combat loneliness and promote social diversity.

Any individual can participate in the activities by becoming a member.

◦ All activities are group-based and supervised; there is no open access to the plots: these are neither family vegetable gardens nor community gardens;

◦ Each person participates according to their ability and as often as they wish;

◦ The nature of the activities is determined by the supervisor based on the needs of the crops and, of course, the participants’ abilities and aspirations;

◦ The harvests are shared when they are ripe with the participants present at theactivity, rather than based on each person’s investment of time and energy;

Activities take place year-round on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and on Monday afternoons starting in the spring, to make it easier for working people to participate;

One-time activities are also organized: special agricultural projects, site maintenance, farm visits (e.g., livestock, spirulina, viticulture, arboriculture), demonstrations of fruit tree pruning, training in market gardening techniques, hosting groups of young people or schoolchildren…
