We take in orphaned chimpanzees—victims of poaching and trafficking—to protect them, care for them, and reintroduce them into their natural habitat in the heart of the Douala-Edéa Nature Reserve in Cameroon, thus contributing to their conservation and the preservation of biodiversity.
The sanctuary evolves every day under the guidance of a dedicated management team whose top priority is the well-being of its charges, adhering to the highest standards of conservation for this critically endangered species (listed on the IUCN Red List).
A portion of humanity—those who poach, traffics, and kills, has deprived them of their family and their freedom; another part of this same humanity—those who love, rescue, and protect—ensures that they can now rebuild their lives within our sanctuary.
Currently, our beautiful family consists of 35 chimpanzees, including 3 juveniles at the camp and 30 chimpanzees on the islands.
These islands, generously granted by the Cameroonian government, constitute a wonderful haven of peace where we release our orphans as soon as they have acquired the necessary autonomy and independence. In this safe environment, they very quickly rediscover their natural instincts.
Our first residents are no longer babies; they have grown up and have babies of their own who are doing very well and are fortunate to have their parents far from the looming threat of poaching and trafficking in the magnificent Douala-Edéa Natural Park in Cameroon.
We provide them with daily food and keep a watchful eye on their well-being from afar.
