Description

During the winter of 2014, enormous amounts of trash washed up along the Atlantic coast. In response to this unprecedented pollution, the nonprofit organization Les Mains Dans Le Sable was founded with the goal of organizing regular beach cleanups in Morbihan.

Recognized as a public interest organization and accredited in three areas (environmental protection in Morbihan; Youth and Community Education; National Education), the association is run by a group of about twenty volunteers and three staff members. It operates locally by organizing beach cleanups and awareness campaigns aimed at keeping the coastline free of waste and preserving its biodiversity. Our events bring together several hundred participants each month in the Lorient, Auray, and Vannes regions.

Our objectives

  • To protect the coastline and its biodiversity from washed-up and abandoned waste.
  • To educate the public about the nature and sources of coastal waste.
  • Engage all local stakeholders: citizens, students, institutions, businesses, and organizations.
  • Encourage consumption choices that respect nature and health

The association can work with groups (schools, businesses, organizations, communities, etc.) to raise awareness about waste reduction and coastal preservation. We are happy to share our experience through two types of initiatives:

  • - Beach cleanup and raising awareness about the issue of waste
  • - Indoor awareness sessions
