Description

Founded in 2018, Le Treuil is:

  • A physical center

A former farmhouse located in Chambœuf (Loire), purchased in 2019 entirely through community funding and without any public assistance; it is gradually being converted into a permanent center.

  • A network of individuals and organizations

Le Treuil is managed by the association “Les Amis du Treuil.” Our members—36 farmer and citizen organizations and nearly 170 individual citizens—make up the Treuil Network. This network is united by a desire to cooperate, learn, and support local initiatives centered on three priorities: small-scale and local agriculture, responsible food production, and environmental protection.

Le Treuil is an alliance between the agricultural and urban worlds.

  • A Rural Third Place in Chambœuf

Certified by the government in September 2021, Le Treuil is dedicated to agricultural, food, and environmental transition. For us, the future of our planet and addressing climate change hinge in particular on the development of small-scale farming as an agricultural model and on “consum’action” (using one’s wallet as a lever for change).

 We offer:

Diverse communal spaces

The interior spaces are named after their original functions in the old farmhouse, except for the Christian Chartier space, named after the former owner.
The site includes four different types of spaces:

  • a set of offices for resident organizations and an office available for coworking or drop-in services: the Maison and the Grenier.
  • Indoor spaces: 2 operational work or training rooms, a resource center equipped for videoconferencing, and an event space currently under development
  • outdoor spaces: the amphitheater and its terrace, the meadow, and a camping area (with restrooms and showers).
  • Educational spaces: an educational orchard, a small-scale wastewater treatment system

The café hosts various events

The cultural dimension of our collaborative, civic, and activist work required a space for socializing and gathering, as well as a cultural and activist tool based on programming events open to the public. (see projects and activities already completed)
