Ride-sharing: A Valuable Service in Rural Areas

Mobility means freedom 

The territory of the Bruyères Vallons des Vosges Community of Communes is no exception to the observation that there is a need for mobility assistance.

The Solidarité Transports Association provides a valuable solution for all those who are unable to get around on their own. 

Community-based transportation: a vital service in rural areas.

Isolation, the temporary or long-term inability to drive or get around on one’s own can make daily life very difficult for some people (problems accessing basic services and meeting the necessities of daily life). 

The principle behind the service offered by the association is simple: to drive people who lack a means of transportation or are unable to drive to their appointments (medical, shopping, banking, etc.). 

Volunteer drivers provide this service in exchange for a contribution toward expenses. 

Based on civic engagement, it also fosters social connections and solidarity. 

This service complements assistance from family members—who may live far away—and existing transportation options (taxis, ambulances, etc.).

Only residents of the Community of Communes (CCB2V) can join the association

To use the solidarity transport service or to become a volunteer driver, you must join the “SOLIDARITE TRANSPORTS” association and pay an annual membership fee of €5. 

Drivers and beneficiaries must agree to the rules. 

Drivers and beneficiaries must sign a charter. 

Drivers must present proof of insurance.

To arrange transportation, the person in need must contact a driver listed on the provided list 48 hours in advance. 

• If an agreement is reached, the driver will go to the person’s home and provide the requested transportation. 

• A fee of €0.50 per kilometer traveled by the driver (from their home to their home) will be requested. The minimum fee cannot be less than €5 per trip.
