Description

Ecolieu du Plan du Pont

The Ecolieu du Plan du Pont association is a community space that runs a community garden and a future agroforestry orchard in Hyères

The Ecolieu du Plan du Pont association is developing a collective permaculture project in the Plan du Pont plain. More than just a community garden, our association promotes ecological and agricultural transition and ensures access to healthy, local produce for as many people as possible.

Three years ago, in the Plan du Pont plain in Hyères, a few friends founded the Ecolieu based on a somewhat crazy idea: to create a collective permaculture production area to feed the community and foster a sense of togetherness!

Today, the Plan du Pont Ecolieu boasts 150 members, 90 fruit trees, and 1 hectare of vegetable garden, thanks to 10 participatory work sessions per year and two weekly gatherings bringing together diverse partners such as young farmers, a herd of goats, associations fighting food insecurity, and groups raising awareness about environmental issues…

This year, the Écolieu du Plan du Pont is embarking on a new adventure: growing a 2.5-hectare community orchard on this same plot. It will be cultivated according to the principles of agroforestry, an agricultural practice aimed at creating a virtuous cycle between the soil, trees, and animals.

Within three years, the association hopes to plant more than 1,000 trees and shrubs, with vegetable beds at their base, to preserve biodiversity while promoting access to organic and local food for all. The harvests will be distributed to food aid organizations.
