Description

Besoin d'R: A Recycling Store

The nonprofit Besoin d'R (short for “besoin d'air,” meaning “need for air”) has opened a pop-up recycling shop in La Vernelle, near Valençay. This recycling shop is launching a project that combines social integration, rural commerce, the circular economy, and environmental sustainability

“So that secondhand becomes your first choice.” That’s the slogan of the Besoin d’R shop, temporarily open in La Vernelle near Buzançais. Following an invitation from the Ecueillé-Valençay community of communes, nine citizens created this collective to recycle and resell items destined for the recycling center. Somewhere between a small Emmaüs store and a flea market, the shop is part of a much broader initiative.

Our Actions
:
Collect goods, products, and materials; repurpose them to extend their original useful life or adapt them for other uses.

Dismantling these goods, products, or materials to separate components and materials that can be reintroduced into a new production cycle,

Prioritizing waste reduction without hindering the economic growth of the business.

Selling, exchanging, and donating goods, products, and services.

This resource center accepts donations of, among other things: power tools, jewelry and watches, CDs, DVDs, and video games, home decor, upholstery fabrics, screens, electric musical instruments, electric mobility devices (scooters, etc.), toys, household linens, books, and lighting fixtures. Items must be in a condition suitable for reuse or repair; if in doubt (regarding size or bulkiness), please call before coming in.

The community-run recycling center Besoin d’R (headquartered in Valençay) does not have a permanent store open to the public at its official address, but sells items through a pop-up shop nearby (former Fontguenand rectory) on Fridays: 2:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
