Family and Community Gardens

Today, the community and shared gardens in Tournefeuille—also known as Tourn’Sol—are setting an example for the region, and many local communities visit the site throughout the year to draw inspiration from its achievements. Their reputation speaks for itself, as 65 families are currently on the waiting list for a plot.

Location
: Situated on a two-hectare municipal plot between the Touch Green Corridor and the Phare parking lot, the gardens are easily accessible by all modes of transportation, including buses (Nos. 65 and 63), cars, bicycles (the green corridor along the Touch River), or even on foot. Additionally, access for people with disabilities has recently been made possible thanks to a stabilized path.

Philosophy of the Allotment Gardens

• As mentioned above, our association brings together gardening enthusiasts, whether they tend to allotment gardens, gardens around their homes, or balconies. Some members do not even garden themselves but are committed to preserving biodiversity and the local environment, and they make the Tourn’sol gardens their meeting place. Our gardens offer a natural space in the heart of the city—one that is certainly cultivated, yet respects natural balances and living organisms.
• Tourn’sol is also a place for education, thanks to its educational plots and workshops; a place for socializing, as it hosts various organizations; and a place for community activities, through events such as the plant swap and garden clearance sale.

These gardens are located on a 2-hectare municipal plot situated in a flood zone and therefore unsuitable for construction.  The spatial layout envisioned by the association, we hope, meets its objectives, which—it must be said—go beyond those of traditional community gardens. These are spaces collectively managed by the association’s volunteers: An educational area: Butinopolis, which is entirely dedicated to beneficial garden wildlife and biodiversity; collective plots with open spaces, cuttings, and a vegetable garden (featuring unique varieties); and an educational plot for gardening classes led by the association’s volunteers, designed for children.
