Description

Our association’s mission is to conserve resources by reusing materials and waste from the construction industry, which accounts for 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 33% of global resource consumption. We will repurpose these materials and waste.

In November 2023, we founded the association Matériauthèque Génération Réemploi in Alès, in the Gard department.

Just as there are resource centers and recycling facilities, we are doing the same for all construction materials classified as waste—from businesses, industries, shops, individuals, local governments, and organizations—that are fully reusable.

We will reduce the amount of waste—currently sent to landfills only to be incinerated, buried, or recycled when possible—by the ton.

To give just one example: 28 million liters of recyclable paint are incinerated each year in France, equivalent to 150,000 metric tons of CO2! This is inconceivable both now and in the future.

Our organization offers a high-impact environmental and societal solution in the fields of ecology, the circular economy, and employment.

The business model is based on the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE): collecting, sorting, storing, processing, and selling non-hazardous inert materials and waste, as well as PMCB 1 and 2 materials, at reduced prices to give them a second life. Jobs will be created through integration and inclusion contracts. Workshops open to everyone to foster social connection and solidarity.

The Matériauthèque is open to the general public for sales, with priority given to:

  • · Low-income individuals
  •  · Eco-housing and shared housing projects
  • · Any construction or self-build project that requires the use of reused materials.

Our mission:

  • To reuse materials rather than discard them
  • Create jobs to help people get back on their feet
  • Reduce the amount of materials sent to landfills
  • Share expertise through workshops,

Our goal is to create a center of expertise in reuse and repair involving all stakeholders.
