What is “Quartier sauvage”? The “Quartier sauvage” project is led by the Tela Botanica association and local municipalities, in partnership with the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. It arose from residents’ desire to stop the systematic removal of plants and weeding in the streets of their neighborhood. Weeding, weeding, and mowing of wild flora have been suspended on several streets in participating neighborhoods, following agreement with the municipality, and residents are engaging in the citizen science project “Sauvages de ma rue” to inventory the urban flora growing in the streets, on sidewalks, and in cracks in the walls. Tela Botanica provides free training to groups of residents who would like to implement this project in their neighborhood. The neighborhood receives a “Quartier sauvage” kit to help carry out the inventories. Even without any knowledge of botany, thanks to the provision of very simple educational tools, it is possible to make a list of the species growing in our streets.
