Description

A compost bin isn't essential for the composting process to work well, but it does offer many advantages

aesthetics

– clean access – limited or no access for animals

– better use of space since the pile can be taller and more compact

In a wooden composter, the waste will tend to dry out more easily than in a plastic composter.  Since dry waste no longer decomposes, you should monitor the moisture content of the composted waste and make the necessary adjustments at least twice a year by opening and turning the different layers of waste.  At that time, be careful not to mix young compost with mature or semi-mature compost.
