Nature-based solutions: Innovating with nature to drive positive impacts on biodiversity, society, and the economy

Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are approaches to the protection, restoration, or management of ecosystems that effectively address various societal challenges and have positive impacts on social,  environmental, economic, and biodiversity levels.

France is home to high-level research on biodiversity, but lacks a well-structured research community to address the challenges of NBAs.  The national research program thus aims to promote the development of innovative and ambitious research on NBAs, as systemic approaches.

When it was established, the national research program on Nature-Based Solutions identified seven targeted projects to be implemented:

1. National Living Lab Network
2. Acquisition of innovative equipment
3. Establishment of knowledge hubs
4. Creation of international networks
5. Network of regional expertise hubs
6. Interdisciplinary clusters of doctoral students
7. Professional and academic training

Lluman maps and studies nature-based solutions across the Montpellier metropolitan area, from the city center to the suburban areas.  Our mission is to connect the various stakeholders and support them in the co-creation of their projects for the investigation, design, experimentation, and evaluation of nature-based solutions.
