Protection of Small Islands in the Mediterranean and Macaronesia

Initiative PIM is an international NGO whose mission is to preserve Mediterranean and Macaronesian islands smaller than 1,000 hectares through concrete conservation measures on the ground and by connecting managers and experts at the international level.

Some of our initiatives:

• Combating invasive species on the outlying islets of Corsica and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region

  Invasive species are one of the main threats to island ecosystems. Initiative PIM was therefore commissioned by the French Office for Biodiversity to draft a strategy to combat invasive species negatively impacting heritage seabird species on the islands and islets of the PACA region in 2018, and then in 2022–2023 on the outlying islets of Corsica.

• Co-management of Grand Rouveau Island

  The island of Grand Rouveau, covering an area of 6.5 hectares, is located within the Embiez archipelago, off the coast of the municipality of Six-Fours-les-Plages (Var, France). Following the site’s acquisition by the Conservatoire du littoral in 2000 and after more than ten years of work on the island, Initiative PIM officially joined the site’s management

• RESCOM: Toward Enhanced Resilience of Ecosystems in the Mediterranean

  The first initiative of the Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium (CMB), a coalition of regional environmental organizations launched in 2021 in partnership with the Conservatoire du littoral, the RESCOM project aims to improve the environmental and social resilience of the Mediterranean basin through the implementation of Solutions

• ICO Solutions: Training for Conservation!

  Launched in 2021 by the Rhône–Mediterranean–Corsica Water Agency, the Conservatoire du littoral, and the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, under the high patronage of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the ICO Solutions (Islands, Coasts, Oceans) initiative is carried out through various activities
