Description

The Kids Potential Biodiversity Index (PBI) is a simplified version of the actual PBI tool, designed to identify the 10 criteria that promote forest biodiversity. The goal of the game is to observe and rate the forest’s capacity to support all the living beings it shelters. Download the educational kit!

But what exactly is the Potential Biodiversity Index (PBI)?

Developed by the National Center for Forest Ownership (CNPF) and INRAE, the PBI is a tool to better integrate biodiversity into forest management.

Activity Overview:

Students step into the shoes of a forester and create an IBP Kids: a simplified version of the Potential Biodiversity Index. Armed with a notebook, students explore a forest and record their observations to assess its capacity to support its inhabitants: plants, birds, insects, fungi, etc. Ultimately, the young observers suggest possible improvements during silvicultural work, just as a CNPF forestry technician might advise a landowner to promote biodiversity in their forest.
