Description

Citizen Science for Marine Biodiversity in the Gulf of Lion

The “Point Zero” project, initiated by the association “Les PEUPLES de la MER”:  a human and wild adventure spanning 4 years, 160 missions, 12,000 km at sea, and over 50,000 observations.

The objective is to assess the initial state of marine biodiversity. This assessment focuses on a 150-km² area located in the Gulf of Lion Marine Nature Park, around the future Leucate floating wind farm.  A human and wild adventure spanning 4 years, 160 missions, 12,000 km at sea, and over 50,000 observations

Our main objectives are to carry out initiatives on land and at sea to:

  • raise awareness among everyone, and in particular among the residents of OCCITANIE and especially those of the Aude, Hérault, and Pyrénées-Orientales, about the wild marine species  (cetaceans, turtles, sharks, large fish, birds) living nearby and at the heart of human activities,
  • carry out annual projects to help restore a balance between human activities and the PEOPLE OF THE SEA,
  • Promote the discovery of nature through a human-centered approach that respects all living things.
