The purpose of the fund is to preserve forest ecosystems of high ecological importance through land acquisition—particularly in the Pyrenees—by removing them from commercial logging and allowing them to evolve naturally

Land acquisition: donations and bequests of forest land enable the Forêts Préservées endowment fund to acquire targeted sites of high ecological importance and to ensure their free evolution over the very long term.
“These acquisitions ensure permanent ‘natural evolution,’ which for us means simply removing the parcels from forestry operations over the very long term. They contribute to the creation of a network of unharvested old-growth forests, complementing the non-forestry framework of public forests and other long-term initiatives.”
Since the fund’s creation in early 2019, acquisitions have made it possible to protect targeted forests, including five old-growth forests in foothill and mountain areas that are now, at least in part, preserved for the very long term.
Forêts préservées currently owns 143 hectares of forest across 15 forest sites in the Pyrenees and its foothills (with a dozen acquisitions underway for approximately 75 hectares,
The practice of ethical forestry with low environmental impact is necessary for many purposes and has its own justification. The preservation of areas where the forest can thrive is equally important. It is to this second aspect that the Fund devotes its energy
