CREABio (Regional Center for Research and Experimentation in Organic Agriculture, promoting innovation in Occitanie and the Greater South) is an experimental center specializing in organic field crops. It is a non-profit organization established in 1989 at the initiative of organic farmers in the region who wanted to have access to technical references on organic field crops.
In 1994, CREABio joined ITAB (Technical Institute of Organic Agriculture) as a Specialized Technical Center for field crops.
CREABio’s mission is to gather scientific and technical data in the field of organic field crops. Thanks to its partnership with the LEGTA in Auch-Beaulieu, CREABio has a 55-hectare farm, certified since 1999, where the following are carried out:
- Annual analytical trials covering a wide range of topics: weed management, variety screening, establishment of cover crops, impact of tillage tools on mineralization, etc.
- Monitoring of changes in farm fertility within a context of agroecological intensification across 12 reference areas.
Together with its partners, CREABio contributes to various research and experimental programs designed to address specific themes, whether at the national or local level.
Experimental site: To carry out its experiments, CREABio has access to the La Hourre farm, a farm owned by the Ludovic Lapeyrère Foundation and leased by the Auch-Beaulieu agricultural high school. Before setting up its trials, CREABio, in partnership with INRAE Toulouse, coordinated the characterization of the site
