Description

Missions: sharing, promoting, and supporting agroecology

By sharing agroecology in both the North and the South, our association works to educate and raise awareness among small-scale farmers and the general public to facilitate and support the agroecological transition.

Our definition of agroecology

Now recognized as an essential discipline, agroecology is regarded by the scientific community as a leading solution to climate change. Agroecology respects natural ecosystems and integrates the economic, social, and political dimensions of human life.  It takes a holistic approach that reconciles agriculture, ecology, productivity, human activity, and biodiversity.
By placing humans at the heart of ecosystems, agroecology, according to Terre & Humanisme, provides a set of tools to successfully navigate the transition together.  Its purpose is not merely to care for the soil, plants, animals, or humans, but also to consider all elements of the ecosystem and social systems and to ensure the quality of their interrelationships.

In this sense, agroecology is a harmonious balance blending agriculture and ecology, quantity and quality, human activities and biodiversity, philosophy and techniques, ecosystems and social systems.

Terre & Humanisme leads the creation and management of:

  • A shared garden with the residents of Villa Savine, a halfway house in Montpellier, in collaboration with the Habitat & Humanisme association. The garden benefits 20 residents and 2 staff members.
  • A shared garden with asylum seekers housed in two CADA (Reception Centers for Asylum Seekers) in Montpellier, in partnership with the La Boussole collective.
  • A garden in the center of Montpellier, which will benefit all vulnerable people in the city, in partnership with La Boussole and the Montpellier metropolitan area
  • Expanding the Solidarity Gardens project throughout France, in partnership with the Habitat & Humanisme network, to establish 14 additional gardens “that do good”
