The FIBER NATURE association, founded in Montpellier in September 2020, aims to promote a better understanding of biodiversity throughout France, introduce the general public to nature, and protect natural sites.
This association is the result of a meeting between passionate and dynamic naturalists, several of whom are students at environmental schools or universities.
FIBER NATURE is honored to be sponsored by a renowned naturalist, Patrick BLANDIN, professor emeritus at the Museum of Natural History and honorary president of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
FIBER NATURE has numerous projects, including the creation of biodiversity reserves throughout France. We established our first biodiversity reserve, covering about a dozen hectares, in May 2021 in southern Ardèche. Other projects include the continued establishment of FIBER NATURE hubs in various regions of France, and the conduct of naturalist inventories, including biospeleology. We co-produced a documentary film about beavers that is regularly screened in France in movie theaters, at festivals, events, middle schools, high schools, and universities.
Several partnerships have already been established or are in the planning stages (agricultural high school, environmental school / BTS in nature management and conservation, radio, French Office for Biodiversity, river management association, national environmental organizations, etc.).
We train many student naturalists through internships or supervised projects within our association.
In the fall of 2023, FIBER NATURE, together with Montpellier-based naturalist associations, created GNAUM (Group of Naturalist Students at the University of Montpellier), ARTIO (Faculty of Sciences of Montpellier), Terre Étudiante Montpellier (Montpellier Faculty of Arts), and the association "1 Diplômé 1 Arbre" (Montpellier Faculty of Sciences), the inter-association ARBORESCENCE. This inter-association, comprising approximately 800 members, aims to organize joint projects, whether field trips or naturalist surveys, meetings, or joint events such as "The 8 Days of Biodiversity" which took place in February–March 2024 at various locations throughout the city of Montpellier (Faculties of Science and Letters, Gazette Café, Cours Diderot Amphitheater, Montpellier Botanical Garden, etc.).
FIBER NATURE is also affiliated with FRAPNA Ardèche, a nature conservation federation itself affiliated with FNE (France Nature Environnement) AURA. FRAPNA Ardèche brings together some twenty nature conservation associations and numerous members, totaling approximately 800 members. Our president and our secretary serve as directors of this federation.
FIBER NATURE, backed by a scientific advisory board of about fifteen naturalists and scientists from various fields, is already supported by numerous leading naturalists such as Francis HALLE, as well as by figures from the world of cinema such as the director and actor Jérémy BANSTER.
FIBER NATURE is, above all, a human adventure centered around a shared passion. If you would like to join this adventure and get actively involved, or simply support us and join us at nature-related events or outings, we would be delighted to count you among our members and have you by our side.
