Facilitating access to alternative and active modes of transportation to school means, above all, understanding the challenges faced by each school and the travel habits of its students. It also means involving the primary stakeholders in school mobility—the students themselves—regardless of their age.
Consultation with local stakeholders, knowledge of the local context, and raising student awareness are the three pillars of the MOBY program for supporting local authorities.
The project manager supports the local authority and the Moby Committee through a methodology based on assessment and consultation to define an action plan centered on three main areas:
• Propose modal shift solutions,
• Create or improve infrastructure to make the area around the school safer and more pleasant,
• Develop or strengthen users’ eco-mobility culture.
It provides a “turnkey” kit (Tools and Actions sheets) that equips the MOBY committee with the necessary knowledge to collectively decide on the actions to implement and monitor their progress.
The program runs for 12 months and includes:
• CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COMMUNICATION
A consultation meeting with all relevant stakeholders in the area
A launch event at the school with the establishment of the MOBY committee made up of volunteers to carry out the project (parents, teachers, students, school staff, etc.)
• AN ASSESSMENT
Conducting an assessment of current travel practices for daily school commutes Identifying accessibility issues at the school
Recommendations for action
