Description

Intelligence for organic farming professionals

Bringing together all stakeholders in the organic sector for sustainable return to the soil

Founded in 2007, the Interprofessional Network for Organic Byproducts (RISPO)  is the leading French association dedicated to the recovery of all types of organic residues (plant matter, bio-waste, sewage sludge, mixed or unmixed household waste, etc.).

With nearly a hundred professional members from both the waste and sanitation sectors,  RISPO brings together all stakeholders in the sector without restriction, regardless of the nature of the organic waste (operators of composting and anaerobic digestion plants, farmers, builders, laboratories, independent consulting firms, etc.).

Our Mission

  • Bringing together stakeholders in the organic sector
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices
  • Maximize the return of organic residues to the soil
  • Professionalizing the organic sector

Some figures

50M: This is the annual gross tonnage of sludge produced by urban wastewater treatment plants in Europe, with an average dry matter content of 20%.

While the agricultural recovery rate for sewage sludge in Europe is around 60%, France stands out for its circular management approach, as the agricultural recovery rate is very high.

188: This is the number of municipalities that have implemented separate collection of food waste (household, commercial, and food service waste—either alone or mixed) in France across all or part of their territory.

Separate collection therefore covers a population of approximately 4.3 million people, or 6% at the national level.

37: This is the number of UVEORs (Energy and Organic Recovery Units) currently in operation in France, which collectively process approximately 1.5 million tons of RSW  (Residual Household Waste: the portion of waste remaining after selective collection) per year.

The biological treatment of RSW therefore serves a population of approximately 8 million people, or 12% of the French population.
