ASTEC’s mission is to promote and educate the public—both nationally and within the French-speaking world—about science, the scientific method, and critical thinking. It is dedicated to working toward public education and the widest possible accessibility and is part of an effort to combat sectarian abuses and abuses in science.
ASTEC offers customized programs for the general public and various professional sectors: outreach, education, public institutions, local governments, businesses, and associations. These initiatives address critical thinking, misinformation, sectarian abuses, inclusion, and the transmission of knowledge. They take the form of training sessions, conferences (which may be filmed), awareness-raising initiatives—particularly regarding sensory disabilities—or even musical compositions for cultural projects. These initiatives can be offered in French, English, or French Sign Language (LSF), depending on needs.
In a context where manipulative discourse is widely disseminated on social media and where sectarian or pseudoscientific groups are gaining influence, it has become essential to strengthen prevention efforts and make a culture of critical thinking more visible. The PRISME project, led by ASTEC, addresses this challenge by combining scientific tools, educational approaches, and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at all audiences.
The project also includes the establishment of an information and support unit for victims, in collaboration with existing stakeholders, and the production of an awareness-raising book. The overall aim is to give everyone greater intellectual autonomy and resources to understand, identify, and prevent the mechanisms of control.
