About Us
Nature Rights is a nonprofit organization that has been working since 2009 to preserve the rights of Nature and Indigenous peoples and to build alternatives on the ground.
We are committed to identifying, supporting, and connecting initiatives dedicated to defending and promoting the rights of Nature and Indigenous peoples, so that these rights become a reality legally, ethically, and operationally.
The organization is part of a broad network of actors advocating for governance systems grounded in “Earth Rights.”
Since 2009, the organization has been working to promote the evolution of international law to ensure the safety of the planet and to be able to assert the rights of Nature in court, in order to preserve vital ecological cycles.
Our actions:
In the Amazon, NR supports community-led projects that promote local natural and cultural resources in the fields of agriculture (agroecology, agroforestry, traditional agriculture), cultural knowledge and skills (crafts, traditional medicine, etc.), and the territory (knowledge of flora and fauna, environmental education, ecotourism).
NR has been involved in community projects in Brazil and, since 2017, in French Guiana through the Forest Knowledge Network, which brings together initiatives focused on agroecology, traditional knowledge, and the enhancement of the territory.
Networking helps strengthen synergies between communities, facilitate intergenerational exchange, and share experiences. The goal is to collaboratively develop alternatives for the sustainable development of French Guiana and thus collectively address the challenge of the region’s ecological transition.
