Description

What is the Biodynamic Agriculture Movement (MABD)?

The MABD’s membership network comprises 900 farmers and 1,000 individuals, led by a team of 15 board members, 12 staff members, and numerous volunteers. These are committed individuals who share the values outlined in the MABD’s charter.

Biodynamics is a form of agriculture for the future—ecological and ethical, with respect for all living things. As an agronomic practice, it is one of the founding principles of organic farming. Its goal is to produce healthy food and harmonious landscapes by making the best use of local natural resources while respecting them.

More specifically, the members of the MABD association are:

  • farmers from various sectors (viticulture, vegetable farming, livestock farming, arboriculture, medicinal and aromatic plants, beekeeping…),
  • other professionals (trainers, researchers, wine merchants, oenologists, restaurateurs, etc.),
  • individuals (gardeners, consumers, volunteers, environmentalists, etc.).

Note: MABD is not a biodynamic certification body and therefore does not award a label. The French biodynamic certification bodies are Demeter and Biodyvin.

What are the MABD’s objectives and missions?

The MABD is firmly committed to sustainable and alternative agriculture that respects life and Nature. Agriculture, gardening, and the act of eating are not neutral; they are, in fact, a reflection of how we view the Earth, the soil, plants, and animals. We must become conscious of these acts and their consequences.

The MABD association has set itself several missions:

  • To raise awareness of biodynamic agriculture and gardening among as many people as possible.
  • To support the understanding and practice of biodynamics on farms and in gardens through:
    • numerous short, certification-based, and online training courses,
    • publishing a Biodynamic Sowing Calendar, the quarterly journal Biodynamis, and thematic books,
    • the development and provision of biodynamic preparations and dried plants for crop care,
    • activities and workshops offered by regional associations in the field.
  • Supporting farmers’ autonomy and assisting with the implementation of biodynamics on farms through:
    • support and advisory services for farmers and their teams,
    • the creation of a network of professionals,
    • supporting local preparation-making groups and regional associations.
  • Representing biodynamics in the agricultural and environmental sectors.
  • Engaging with and forming partnerships with other organizations to defend and uphold our vision of life.
  • Supporting research in biodynamics.
  • Organizing and participating in meetings, conferences, seminars, and other events related to biodynamics.
