Description

Despite the implementation of major erosion control projects since the 1950s, rural areas in North Africa have experienced significant declines in productivity, accompanied by an increased risk of runoff and slope erosion. In light of this situation and the need to effectively optimize water management and restore soil fertility, this book recommends improving traditional techniques as the best approach for implementing integrated rural development projects. Supported by the AUF’s Érosion network, the Franco-Moroccan team of geographers, agronomists, and foresters brought together in this book analyzed some thirty traditional water and soil management techniques in Morocco. Based on these experiences, the book proposes combinations of traditional soil management techniques that have been optimized and adapted to local conditions. It is intended for teachers, students, and researchers, as well as NGOs and decision-makers responsible for rural development programs in the Maghreb and in semi-arid regions.
