"Sentinelles de la nature," led by France Nature Environnement, is a participatory project launched in 2015 in Isère. It quickly gained momentum and now covers the entire mainland, French Guiana, and Mayotte.

The system is very simple: an interactive map allows anyone to report environmental violations or initiatives that benefit the environment. Violations can then be addressed, and positive initiatives highlighted to inspire other regions.

Sentinelles de la Nature is THE citizen community that geolocates and resolves environmental violations across France. With just a few clicks from your smartphone or computer, you can report environmental degradation or, conversely, an eco-friendly initiative near you. A photo, a description, and you’re done! And because behind Sentinelles de la Nature are dedicated men and women, you’ll always be supported at every step by local organizations at the forefront of environmental and nature conservation.

The project’s objectives

1. Boost citizen, community, and private and public sector engagement

• Enable everyone in France to become an active participant in environmental monitoring 
• Encourage synergies between organizations, citizens, and local stakeholders
• To inform and raise awareness about environmental issues and regulations

2. Improve the prevention and resolution of damage to nature and the environment

• Maintain a continuous stream of geolocated and topic-specific reports 
• Proposing innovative solutions to major environmental challenges
