Description

L’Hirondelle aux Champs is a non-profit association established under the French Law of 1901, founded in 2013.
The association’s mission is to promote the preservation and restoration of biodiversity in agricultural settings.

Objectives of the association

  • Inform Assess
  • Advise Support
  • Spread Connect

A sentinel of the environment just like the bee, the swallow is an essential link in the ecosystems associated with it, across borders. It is a true indicator of the quality of natural environments that ensure balance between humans and nature, for nature and for humans.

The association was founded by farmers concerned about their environment and wishing to promote the idea of greater consideration for biodiversity in the agricultural sector.

Biodiversity Assessments: Description and Process

A “biodiversity” assessment involves identifying landscape elements that are present, absent, or damaged on a given agricultural plot. First, an in-depth interview is conducted using a questionnaire with the farmer, which also helps gauge their perspective on the role of biodiversity on their farm.

Next, several field visits are conducted on the plot in question, using forms to be filled out.

Finally, an ecological assessment of these landscape and natural elements is compiled into a report, with a strong emphasis on mapping.

This report is presented to the farmer during a final meeting, during which suggestions are also made for new developments on their farm or simple improvements to existing features. These proposals may lead to a second collaboration between the farmer and the association, which can then implement the recommended changes.

The Hirondelle Community Nursery: The Plant Recycling Center: a unique place to discover!

The project aims to recover unsold plants intended for composting. A partnership has been established with the GammVert, Delbard, and Truffaut stores, as well as the Botanic Valence store.

We therefore offer a wide variety of plants for sale at reduced prices: the goal is to raise funds to finance our initiatives in support of biodiversity!

At the Hirondelle nursery, you’ll find indoor plants, outdoor plants, shrubs, trees, vegetable seedlings, herbs, ornamental plants… You’ll also find pots, potting soil, and wooden birdhouses built by the association’s employees.
