Description

With the creation of the first organic-certified poultry farm and a traditional diet based on heirloom grains, we aim to preserve and reintroduce poultry breeds native to the Pays d’Auge region, including the Crèvecoeur hen of the Pays d’Auge

The Pays d’Auge Biodiversity Conservatory aims, on 10 hectares, to:

  • the creation of the first French organic breeding stock, providing foster hens to producers certified under the European organic label:
    • the Crèvecœur hen,
    • the Bavent goose,
    • the Black Normandy Turkey,
    • the Hotot white rabbit...
    • the creation of a new breed derived from white homing pigeons and white Hubbel pigeons.
  • the sale of live animals to the following markets:
    • private individuals, zoos, and other conservation organizations wishing to acquire live animals from the Pays d’Auge;
    • roosters, geese, turkeys, Cauchois pigeons, and rabbits, made available under their foster mothers by the association Les Paysans coopérateurs de Normandie™ for meat production;
    • Crèvecœur and Sussex hens are primarily intended for adoption in the gardens of private individuals in Calvados as part of the departmental program aimed at reducing organic waste collected from households through departmental SIVOMs;
  • the production of grains, legumes, and protein crops using innovative permaculture and agroforestry methods, aiming for self-sufficiency in animal feed with heirloom varieties supplied by INRA conservation laboratories and seeking a Traditional Specialty Guaranteed (TSG) designation;
  • the creation of inclusive and sustainable jobs for five employees under CUI-CAE contracts or as part-time civil volunteers.
